Strawberry Trug

I am super excited about introducing you to this little trug basket!

I tried to keep the style of the trug very close to the Sussex trug, which is where I live. It is traditionally made up of seven base boards, two rim pieces, a handle and two feet. I needed to make slight adjustments to get the template to work, but overall I am extremely pleased with how it has turned out!

The template for this trug comes as a SVG and PDF, available through my Etsy shop, and comes complete with the template for the cute paper strawberry.

You could fill the trug with chocolates or sweets, or maybe an arrangement of paper flowers and a gift card! Or how about making lots of paper strawberries and filling them with little Easter eggs before sealing them up and gifting them in the trug! The choice is yours!

To make one of your own, you will need:

* Strawberry Trug template (PDF and SVG available)

* Computer and printer to print the PDF template and instructions

* Digital cutting machine (I have only tested this on my Cricut machines)

* Double sided cardstock (220-250gsm recommended)

* Thinner double sided cardstock for the strawberry (216gsm)

* Craft glue / PVA

If you are not using a cutting machine you will also need:

* Craft knife / scissors

* Scoring tool

* Ruler

TIP 1: Once all of the pieces are cut out, I recommend arranging them in the order shown on the PDF. This will help you to identify the pieces more easily.

TIP 2: Use pegs to help hold the pieces in place whilst the glue dries.

TIP 3: Use thicker card, or apply extra panel layers to the handle pieces if the trug is going to be carrying something heavier than a few Easter eggs.

TIP 4: Position the two feet centrally on the base of the centre board, an equal distance away from the handle base. This will ensure that the trug stands up straight.

TIP 5: Use tweezers to help you assemble the strawberry stalk. This is a very small piece and can be quite fiddly to handle!

So, now that your little trug is complete, what are you going to fill it with? I think I might have a go at making a larger version to be more like a picnic basket...
