Spring Chicken Favour Box

After making lots of Easter bags and Easter baskets for this year, I thought about creating a different kind of favour box for Easter too. And the theme I chose to use was a Spring chicken!

I started off with a simple pyramid box, then started experimenting with the various features until I was happy with the design. I eventually decided upon a heart-shaped theme. Apart from the eyes, all of the chicken's features are made up of hearts and I love how they all work together.

To make your own little chicken favour boxes, you will need:

• chicken favour box template (see below)
• scraps of coloured card (plain, patterned or textured)
• scissors / craft knife
• ruler
• double-sided tape / gluestick
• black pen
• mini craft peg

To begin, right-click the template image below and select 'save image as'. Print this out to whatever size you wish. I printed mine at 150%. The quality is not so good at this size, but it is only meant as a guide :-)

Cut all of the shapes out, draw around them onto your chosen coloured card and cut out.

Score and fold the tabs on the main body piece, apply double-sided tape and attach the short edges together to form a ring.

Next, fold the side tab inwards and attach the beak to it (as shown below). For the wattle, fold the two hearts in half and glue together. Turn the hearts upside down and attach in place below the beak (as shown below). Then attach the side edges together to form the front of your chicken.

Draw a black dot on each eye, then glue the eyes and wings in place, taking care to line them up if you want them symmetrical.

Glue the tail feathers to one side of the mini craft peg. Pinch the open ends of the main body together and clip the peg on to hold in place.

Glue the feet to the base.

Finally, score along the dotted lines on the comb, fold upwards and glue to the top of the box as shown.

Your Spring chicken favour box is complete! Now all you need to do is fill it with delicious sweets and treats ready for Easter!
