Sunflowers are seen as a symbol of strength and happiness, and they create a magnificent display in my latest pop-up box card!
Perfect for birthdays, Mother's Day, get well soon or just as a thank you, the whole card folds flat, making it easy to post.
The template for this pop-up box card is in my Etsy shop, available as an SVG cut file.
To make one of these cards, you will need:
* Computer and printer to print the PDF instructions
* Digital cutting machine (I have only tested this on my Cricut machines)
* Cardstock / patterned card (220-260gsm recommended)
* Craft glue / PVA
* Fine point tweezers (optional)
Watch my video tutorial showing how to assemble the box card, and be sure to follow the tips below.
TIP 1: If you are not using patterned card for the decorative panels, try embossing them and ink around the edges to create more dimension.
Arrange the panels out like this for the inside of the box card:
TIP 2: Cutting out a white or light coloured panel for the back of the card creates a space for you to write your own message or to add a stamped sentiment.
TIP 3: Glue the three inserts inside the box just slightly lower than the top, about 4mm down. Then check that the card folds down flat both ways.
TIP 4: Lightly ink the edges of each sunflower petal, then curl them up slightly with a bone folder. You can also emboss the centres with little polka dots if desired.
TIP 5: Gently bend the sunflower leaves up around a pair of fine point tweezers to create a little dimension.
TIP 6: Arrange the sunflowers in height order, starting from the back. Then add in a couple of extra leaf stalks to fill in any gaps.
TIP 7: Stamp your own sentiment onto the small, white card. For mine, I used black ink with these mini alphabet stamps (typewriter font).
When standing, this card measures approximately 13.2cm (H) x 6.1cm (D) x 6.1cm (W), and when folded flat, it fits neatly into a 15 x 15cm envelope. This is only meant as a guide, as the SVG file can easily be re-sized to suit your needs.
I hope I have inspired you to create one of these beautiful box cards for yourself. Feel free to send me a photo of your finished creation if you do!
