Altered Tin Design

This was a challenge: what could I create using the remains of some Christmas crackers?

They were too beautifully patterned to throw away, so I started thinking, and decided to try another altered tin design.

And here is the result!

With the addition of some paper flowers, a small key, a paper doily, some small faux pearls and a printed image of a pocket watch, the theme I was trying to go for was Victorian Music Hall. 

I was particularly inspired by this image from City Varieties Music Hall, Leeds.

It would be lovely to use this tin to keep theatre tickets in.

The card was quite thick so I had to separate the layers, and because the top layer was already coated it didn't tear.

I love the shine on the finished item. The coating on the card was already quite shiny, but with the addition of several layers of PVA glue it really sparkles now!

Altered Tin Design

Over the last few months, I've been making a collection of small (throat pastille) tins - not wanting to throw them away, but not really knowing what to do with them. 

After spending some time on Pinterest recently, I found myself suddenly immersed into the world of altered tin designs, and I knew what I had to do!

I couldn't wait to get started! This is my first one, combining steampunk and vintage design.

I used a textured paper to cover the outside of the tin, and after inking the edges, I applied a little antique gold Rub n Buff to enhance the detail.

All of the other materials I used are repurposed, having been taken off of something else.

I am thrilled with the result, particularly the little silver (bead) feet on the base.

I can't wait to start making more of these - the design possiblities are endless!

Steampunk Tea Set

At last! Here it is. My matching teacup and saucer to complement my latest steampunk teapot.

I am thrilled with how this set has turned out!

The saucer has a small doily on it, delicately matching the top of the teapot lid. 

The perfect unique gift for any tea-lover.

Steampunk Teapot Box

Here's my latest steampunk-inspired teapot box. It's different, but I think it works...

I kept the keyhole in the front, as I really like that idea - I just changed the surround to an oval one, which compliments the circular top hat.

Now all I need is a matching teacup!

Steampunk Gift Box

Continuing with the steampunk theme, here is my latest gift box. Perfect for small items of jewellery!

Steampunk Teapot

This is my first attempt at a steampunk teapot, and I am more than pleased with how it's turned out! 

After a little more research into steampunk design, I came up with this simple idea:

A bit of Rub 'n' Buff later and I am thrilled with the result:

A mini pressure guage on the lid replaces the flower on my usual teapot boxes...

and I cut the keyhole out of the front so that it is an actual hole. This would look great with a light inside it!

Steampunk Wedding Card

Recently, I was invited to a steampunk wedding, and I really wanted to create a card to fit in with the day's theme. Prior to this, I had very little knowledge of anything to do with steampunk, so I did some research, and hopefully the resulting card didn't look too out of place!

I printed the two keys on the front, cut them out and covered them with a thin layer of 3D Clear Gloss Finish.

I added another key to the inside, and raised the steampunk tag slightly (on two strips of thin card) so that a gift card could be slipped underneath.

Note to self: Do more research involving Nathan Fillion as Castle!
