My Journey from Teapot Collector to Designer

My love of novelty teapots started when I first visited the old Cardew teapottery factory in Bovey Tracey, Devon. I was about twelve years old and was instantly captivated by all the intricate little details on the teapots and the extensive range of designs.

Intrigued by how they were made, I came away with my very own little teapot - this Victorian wash stand one cup design - and the behind the scenes booklet, which I studied at length.

POLICE BOX Teapot Box

This impressive POLICE BOX Teapot Box seemed like the obvious next step after designing my Red Telephone Teapot Box. Again, it took a bit of trial and error to work it all out, but I'm so pleased with how it looks 💙

Paper Craft Police Box Teapot Box Lantern for Gift Giving

I created my first POLICE BOX teapot box back in 2014. Back then, I cut everything out by hand, including all of the little panel pieces and signs, which proved to be quite fiddly to say the least!

Now, travelling forwards in time to 2024 (do you see what I did there?), I was able to cut my new version out using my lovely Cricut cutting machine 💙

Red Telephone Teapot Box

I first made one of these red telephone teapot boxes about a year ago, but I have only just got around to designing the template for it. It was a bit tricky to work out at first, but with a bit of trial and error, and a lot of determination, I am absolutely thrilled with the results!

There are two different versions of the template included in the download. The one pictured above, with the OPEN windows, is designed for using acetate windows so that you can see through it, like a real telephone box. You might want to use this version with little lights inside and display it on a shelf or a windowsill.

Perfect for gifting sweets or small treats, this adorable Christmas pudding teapot box has all the character of a real Christmas pudding. It's white icing lid looks as though it's dripping down the sides, and a little sprig of holly and berries adds a colourful finishing touch.

Miniature Tea Set

So, I challenged myself to see just how small I could make a paper teapot and teacup using my templates ... and this is the result!

Aren't they cute?

I scaled the teapot template down to approximately 11% and the teacup template to approximately 7% of the original size.

Yes, they were extremely fiddly to make, but if you fancy making one yourself, or if you think you can make one even smaller, then just remember, the smaller the size of the template, the thinner the paper or card you will need to use.

You can find the PDF templates for these items, and more, on my Etsy shop.

Paper Flower Tutorial

Following on from my paper rose tutorial, I now have a video showing how I create the different paper flowers that adorn the top of some of my teapot boxes. They are really simple to make and, I think you'll agree, they give the teapots a more elaborate quality!

I hope this inspires you to create some of your own different paper flowers. You can use a matching colour or a contrasting colour to add that extra special finishing touch to your teapot boxes.
