Beach Hut Box Tutorial

Beach Hut Favour Boxes for Beach Theme Party Gifts

My latest video tutorial shows how to assemble my beach hut favour box. The printable PDF templates are available on my Etsy shop and are really simple to put together.

To make the boxes, you will need:
  • Beach Hut Box PDF templates
  • White photo paper or cardstock (matte 220-250gsm / 80-92lb recommended)
  • Craft knife / scissors
  • Scoring tool
  • Ruler
  • Craft glue / double-sided tape
Perfect for holding sweets or small treats, these little boxes look great lined up in a row and can be used for beach-themed parties and birthdays.

Evil Queen Crown

If you enjoyed my DIY Evil Queen Crown post, then you may also like to the watch the video I made about it.  It contains simple, easy to follow instructions, describing how I created the crown.

I used core'dinations Colour Core Cardstock (Black Cat, 250gsm), using just one 12" x 12" sheet to create the whole crown.

I hope you enjoy watching it, and listening to the beautiful music (Pas de Deux by Bird Creek), and that you will be inspired to create your own Evil Queen Crown.

Upcycled Shelves

Following on from my DIY display shelves tutorial, I have put another old box file to good use.

I rescued this one from a bin, and as I only had one I decided to do something a little different with it.

The lid was already broken off, so I neatened the edges and removed the fittings with a flat screwdriver as before. I then taped over the holes that remained.

I cut the lid to make three separate long pieces - two to create the middle section, and one to strengthen the left side where the lid had been. These were then glued together and taped into place. The pieces had to be measured carefully so that they sit flush when fitted in.

To create further shelves, I used pieces from another box file lid that I had left over from the last project, and cut them to fit. I cut out eight pieces, doubled them up for strength and taped them firmly into position. I measured the spaces between them carefully so that each 'square' space was the same size.

I covered the back and sides with one piece of white wood-effect sticky-back plastic, then used smaller pieces to cover the shelves and the inside. The whole structure was now strong, solid and secure.

I could have kept it looking like this, but I decided to add some colour with a square of patterned paper inside each space. These can easily be removed or covered over if I ever want a different look.

Hopefully you have been inspired to create something similar yourself...

Snakes in Baskets

Loom band snakes are starting to take over my house! These cute little creations are so quick and easy to make (following this tutorial), and since we have so many of them, we decided to think of something creative to do with them.

First, we gave them all names and created individual characteristics for them. We then used this information to make some ID tags. We then thought about a place to keep them, and a basket seemed an obvious choice.

As an avid recycler, I already had a collection of empty yoghurt pots that were perfect for the job!

I started by cutting the lip off to make the top completely circular. I then covered it with brown wool, ribbon and ric-rac, secured into place with strong glue. A length of wool tied around it holds the ID tag in place.

Snakes in baskets have without a doubt been my most popular makes this year. The quirkier the better, I say!
